Emanate Finance

Personal & asset finance

Finance for cars, boats, bikes, caravans and everything in between.

Car loan calculator and live asset finance quotes.

Sometimes you just need finance sorted quickly for something you need now — a car, a caravan, equipment for the business, or a personal loan for an unexpected expense.

We'll also tell you when it's better to leave it alone. If adding it to your mortgage would cost you more over time, or the timing sits badly against a purchase or refinance you're planning, that's worth knowing first.

Estimate your payment

Move the sliders for a rough monthly figure. Secured asset loans sit at the lower end; an unsecured personal loan will usually sit above this range.

Estimated monthly repayment

$677$833

A guide only, based on rates roughly between 6.00% and 15.00% p.a. with no balloon payment — secured asset loans at the lower end, unsecured personal loans at the higher end. Your actual rate depends on the asset, your credit profile and the lender.

General information only — illustrative modelling, not credit assistance or an offer of finance. Actual outcomes depend on your circumstances, lender policy, rates and fees.

Step by step

How asset finance works

Four steps from a rough number to funds paid to the seller.

1

Estimate the repayment

Move the sliders for a rough monthly figure based on the amount, term and where your rate is likely to land. No details required.

2

Get live quotes

Answer a few quick questions and the tool returns indicative offers from more than 40 lenders. Quoting doesn't record a credit enquiry.

3

Pick the option that fits

Compare rate, term, fees and any balloon side by side, and check the total cost rather than just the monthly repayment.

4

Apply and settle

Submit the application with ID, income and asset details. Many approvals come back the same day, with funds paid direct to the dealer or seller.

How the numbers work

What moves your repayment

Five inputs decide the number a lender quotes you.

Amount financed

The purchase price less your deposit or trade-in, plus any on-road costs you roll into the loan.

Interest rate

Driven by the asset's age, whether it's personal or business use, and your credit profile. A secured asset loan usually prices well below an unsecured personal loan.

Loan term

Typically one to seven years. A longer term drops the monthly figure but you pay more interest over the life of the loan.

Balloon payment

A lump sum deferred to the end. It flatters the monthly repayment and quietly increases the total cost.

Fees

Establishment and monthly account fees vary between lenders and are included in the comparison rate.

How can we help?

What are you financing?

Pick yours — the paperwork, the terms and the lenders differ between them.

Car loans for your next car, ute or van

A car loan is normally secured against the vehicle itself, which is why the rate sits well below an unsecured personal loan. Terms usually run one to seven years, and most buyers land on five for a car they intend to keep.

Lenders look at three things: your income and existing commitments, your credit history, and the vehicle. Newer cars from a licensed dealer attract the sharpest pricing; older cars, private sales and auction buys are all financeable but the age limit at settlement matters, so it pays to check before you commit to a purchase.

A deposit or trade-in isn't always required, though it lowers the amount financed and the total interest. Balloon payments are optional and mostly suit business use. Use the estimator above for a monthly figure, then run a live quote to see what the panel would actually offer on the vehicle you have in mind.

Worth knowing

How this fits with your mortgage

Every new repayment you take on reduces what a mortgage lender thinks you can afford — and a car loan taken out a month before a home loan application can change the outcome of both.

So if a purchase or refinance is on the horizon, tell us. Sequencing the two properly often costs nothing and matters a lot.

Good to know

Asset and personal finance questions

What can be financed as an asset loan?

Most roadworthy vehicles and identifiable business assets — cars, utes, vans, motorbikes, caravans, trailers, boats, trucks and equipment. Lenders differ on age limits and private sales.

Is a secured loan cheaper than a personal loan?

Generally a loan secured against the asset carries a lower rate than an unsecured personal loan, because the lender has security. What suits you depends on the asset, its age and your circumstances.

How quickly can asset finance be arranged?

It's usually faster than a mortgage. With payslips or business figures ready, many applications can be assessed quickly, though timing depends on the lender and how complete the paperwork is.

Should I add a car to my mortgage instead?

Sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't. A mortgage rate is lower, but stretching a five-year purchase over thirty years can cost more in total interest unless the extra repayment is directed back onto the loan. It's worth comparing both before deciding.

Can I get finance if I'm self-employed?

Yes. There are lenders comfortable with self-employed borrowers, and some will consider alternative income documentation. Requirements vary, so it's worth a conversation about which lenders suit your situation.

How is my asset loan repayment calculated?

Five things decide the number: the amount financed after any deposit or trade-in, the interest rate, the term (usually one to seven years), any balloon left at the end, and the lender's fees. Stretching the term lowers the monthly figure but raises the total interest paid.

What is a balloon payment, and do I want one?

A balloon is a lump sum deferred to the end of the term. It flatters the monthly repayment and quietly increases the total cost, and you'll need to refinance, sell or pay it out when it falls due. It can make sense for business use; for a family car it's often better avoided.

Does getting a quote affect my credit score?

No. The quote tool works out what you're likely to be offered without recording a credit enquiry. A credit check only happens later, if you decide to proceed with an application.

What documents will I need?

Usually photo ID, recent payslips or business figures, and the details of the asset. If you're refinancing an existing loan, the current payout figure helps too.

How accurate is the car loan calculator on this page?

It's a guide, not an offer. The estimator uses a rate range of roughly 6.50% to 13.99% p.a. with no balloon, so it shows the shape of the repayment rather than a quoted figure. The live quote tool below it goes further and returns actual indicative offers from the lender panel.

Can I finance a car bought privately or at auction?

Yes. Private sales and auction purchases are financed regularly, though lenders take more care with valuation, roadworthiness and confirming the seller owns the vehicle outright. Expect slightly stricter age limits and a little more paperwork than a dealer purchase.

Can I pay an asset loan out early?

Usually yes. Most secured asset loans allow early payout, though some fixed-rate contracts charge a break or early termination fee. It's worth asking the question before you sign rather than after, especially if you plan to upgrade the vehicle in two or three years.

What term should I choose for a car loan?

Match the term to how long you'll realistically keep the asset — commonly five years for a car, three for a bike, and up to seven for a caravan or heavy commercial vehicle. A longer term looks cheaper each month but you can end up owing more than the asset is worth.
